Capaldi said during his BBC Radio 2 interview “I feel that it’s time to move on”. The Twelfth Doctor was announced to be played by Peter Capaldi in August 2013.

Goodbyes will be said to Capaldi’s Doctor at the end of Series 10, ending at the Christmas special in December 2017. Series 10 of Doctor Who is due to air in April 2017.

Presenter Jo Whiley recently Tweeted her upset and shock at the announcement during her radio interview with the Doctor Who actor:

I wasn't expecting to regenerate a Doctor this evening! Peter Capaldi announces he's to leave @bbcdoctorwho Xmas 2017 @BBCRadio2 Sobs ??

Not to worry, though, there are still 335 days left in 2017 and there is still series ten of the show left for you to enjoy number twelve! Enjoy it while it lasts, a regeneration scene is imminent…
