According to a report from NPR, Meek Mill recently pled guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge related to his 12-year-old case, stemming from an arrest when he was 19-years-old. The outlet reported that his case has officially been closed.
Today, Tuesday, August 27th, Meek pleaded guilty to a very minor weapons charge in Philadelphia. The prosecutors presiding over the case dismissed the other charges, and the judge didn’t impose any other penalties.
Meek’s guns and drug case has been ongoing ever since he was first detained by the authorities back in 2007. The mistake he made over a decade ago has meant that he has been on probation for most of his adult life.

Standing before a crowd outside of the courthouse in Philadelphia’s Center City, Meek said to the crowd, “Meek free! I’m not on probation no more!” Meek thanked those in the crowd, stating that many of them also probably have family members in jail, dealing with the same sort of problems he was.
The rapper stated he would continue to play his part in the reform movement, including providing aid to those who helped him. Reportedly, for years, Meek conflicted with the Philadelphia trial judge, Genece Brinkley, who presided over the case and accused the rapper of not obeying the rules of his probation.
Two years ago in November 2017, Brinkley gave Meek a 2-4 year sentence for violating his probation by riding a dirt bike in New York as well as finding himself in a scuffle at the St. Louis airport.
The case against the rapper made him a reflection of the issues that many African-Americans reportedly face in the US legal system. Despite the fact he was constantly in trouble with the law regarding his past gun case, the rapper managed to continue to put out albums, moreover, he debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200 with his most recent release.

Meek served around five months of the sentence given to him until an appeals court released the rapper and was given bail in April 2018.
